Hier zo'n vogel in Oman, ook de latijnse naam is veranderd (of denkt de CSNA, die voor de WP wordt gevolgd, daar anders over?) zie de tekst in HBW : "S. risoria”, formally confirmed as a valid name by ICZN, has been linked with present species and also with S. decaocto, but uncertain origin and ambiguity in original description underline that this name is best reserved for informal use for the domesticated and feral form

Max Berlijn  ·  13 januari 2023  16:26, gewijzigd 13 januari 2023  16:33

Uit de abstract: "In 2008 the ICZN ruled that the senior name risoria should have priority for both African Collared Dove and its domestic form, Barbary Dove."

Max Berlijn  ·  13 januari 2023  17:30, gewijzigd 13 januari 2023  18:05

"IOC (2022) still lists Streptopelia roseogrisea as the scientific name of African Collared Dove.

A formal proposal to ICZN by Donegan (2007) to conserve the junior synonym Streptopelia roseogrisea (Sundevall, 1857) for African Collared Dove, and use the senior synonym Streptopelia risoria (Linnaeus, 1758) for the domesticated form (Barbary Dove), was rejected by ICZN (2008, Opinion 2215), who instead maintained the priority of Streptopelia risoria for both the wild and domesticated forms. Thus, the valid name of African Collared Dove is Streptopelia risoria.

Nevertheless, Dickinson & Remsen (2013) still used Streptopelia roseogrisea as the scientific name of African Collared Dove. In a footnote, they stated that Opinion 2215 (ICZN 2008) does not affect the name of African Collared Dove “unless the name risoria of disputed origin and in use as the domesticated Barbary Dove is considered a senior synonym of this wild African species (p. 56)”. Thus, Dickinson & Remsen (2013) felt that the conspecificity of wild African Collared Dove (roseogrisea) and domesticated Barbary Dove (risoria) had not been established yet.

Based on a comprehensive analysis of the historical record, Van Grouw (2018) corroborated the conspecificity of S. risoria and S. roseogrisea, and considered the rule by ICZN to maintain the priority of S. risoria as ‘quite appropriate’ (p. 21).

Neotypes been assigned for the names Streptopelia risoria and Streptopelia roseogrisea by Donegan (2008) and Van Grouw (2018), respectively. Therefore the nomenclature of both names can be considered fully settled.

Therefore, I strongly recommend that IOC follows ICZN (2008) and adopts the name Streptopelia risoria (Linnaeus, 1758) for African Collared Dove.

Prima actie George!
