Probst, R, Probst, R, Martinez, N & Krisch, L 2025. Ein Rotschwanz-Mischsänger in Kärnten, mit Hinweisen zur Feldbestimmung von Phoenicurus-Hybriden und „Östlichen“ Hausrotschwänzen. Carinthia II 135: 231–248. [Link verwijst naar pdf op Researchgate]

We describe the occurrence and habitat of a Common Redstart mixed-singer observed in the district of Feldkirchen, Carinthia, in spring 2024. An attempt is made to estimate the frequency of such mixed-singers. For further information the following redstart forms are described and the probability of observing a male in Carinthia is estimated: “Western” Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros gibraltariensis) in adult plumage, “Western” Black Redstart in the advancing or “paradoxus” plumage, “Western” Black Redstart in the inhibition or “cairei” plumage (colored as Black Redstart females), nominate Common Redstart (Ph. phoenicurus) in adult plumage (including discussion of individuals with extended bibs), nominate Common Redstart in 1st winter plumage (including the mention of male-like plumage traits in some old Common Redstart females), phenotypically pure (i.e. without any indication of hybridization based on plumage) Common Redstart mixed-singers, Black x Common Redstart hybrids, “Eastern” Black Redstart, “Western” Black Redstart (gibraltariensis) with red on the belly and Common Redstart of the south-eastern subspecies samamisicus.
