Hi again.

It's quite interesting to see the species feeding on ferns. Fern fronds consumption by this Bullfinch has been cited by Jaime A. Ramos in this paper:

RAMOS, J. A. (1994). Fern Frond Feeding by the Azores Bullfinch. Journal of Avian Biology, 25 (4): 344-347.

Best regards.

Rúben,

As you know, São Miguel is absolutely covered in hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla and Hydrangea serrata). On the latter (the type with the flat flowers), you could see the Priolo (Azores Bullfinch) eating the flower buds. They ate all kinds of flower buds, including ferns. See here a video I made, which even shows them eating the leaves of the Hydrangea serrata.

Hi again.

Many thanks for the response and the link. I'll check it later. Very interesting.

Best regards from the Canaries.
