First, just as a marginal note for those whose interest is reaching beyond the Dutch border, the taxon pallidirostris has never been recorded in Germany so far.

Second, the taxon pallidirostris is still a subject of discussion. In the IOC World Bird List version 15.1, updated February 20, 2025 lahtora and pallidirostris are still treated as subspecies of excubitor. I don't know about the recent decision in the new AviList, but in waarneming pallidirostris is treated as subspecies of excubitor, whereas in dutchavifauna it is a subspecies of lahtora. I am sure there are experts within the Dutch birding community who can explain this break through the Dutch birding scene.

According to The Lanius excubitor (Aves, Passeriformes) conundrum—Taxonomic dilemma when molecular and non-molecular data tell different stories it seems that even 15 years after the online version there is still something to be learned.

Dutch Birding follows CSNA taxonomy; waarneming.nl has switched to the IOC/AviList taxonomy, which is a lot easier to use internationally.
