For those wondering why the website moderators changed (rightly or wrongly) this bird's name from Pleske's Tit into tianschanicus/yenisseensis Azure Tit:

it was because Cees S Roselaar, author of an as yet unpublished book on Palearctic birds, suggested or, rather, concluded the following:

it is "subspecies tianschanicus from the eastern Tienshan (east of 76°E), or perhaps from the western population of yenisseensis (not the eastern 'apeliotes', which has less white in the tail), certainly not a hybrid C cyanus / hyperrhyphaeus x C caeruleus ('pleskei'); the vague slightly yellow-tinted chest possibly shows some influence from flavipectus (western Tienshan, the area where our Hume's Leaf Warblers come from), but not nearly deep sulfur-yellow enough for true flavipectus; tianschanicus and flavipectus hybridize between 74° and 76°E in the Kirghizskiy Khrebet/Mts, but also east from here some tianschanicus sometimes have some yellow / pale buff on the chest. Tianschanicus and yenisseensis are somewhat migratory, but mostly altitudinal from the mountains into the lowlands; the main distribution of both lies in China."

NB: the only other report of tianschanicus for Europe concerns an ancient specimen (now in the American Museum, New York, USA) collected in Germany on 12 October 1821 (following a check in 1975, it was considered to be an escaped cage bird).

NB: iedereen kan de opnamen natuurlijk vergelijken met het repertoire dat op xeno_canto is te vinden; een lange reeks mooie sonagrammen van pimpel is in het Handbuch van Glutz (deel 13/1) opgenomen
